Slow evolution: Beedrill

My entry for *Esepibe's contest. The basic premise is to draw a Pokemon evolving slowly and in stages, rather than the sudden "flash of light" that we always see in the games/anime.

However, my entry is a slightly different take on the concept. To my knowledge, even real butterflies (or anything that grows in a similar way) go somewhat suddenly from caterpillar to cocoon to adult--all the development is within its shell.

So that's what I did here. Okay, I skipped the getting fat stage with Weedle (as I realized just now), but it shows the development within the cocoon from worm thingy to killer bee. I probably could have done more stages (and actual research), but a) I'm lazy and b) the deadline is Sept. 1st and since I'll be gone the next two weeks I'm not sure I'll have much of a chance to work on art-related stuff when I get back.

And just to clarify the hazy Kakuna overlay on the two middle stages, it's to show the growth on the inside. I guess that means Kakuna's outer eyes are just for decoration? 0.o; I dunno.

Weird-ass shading is damn weird.
